Cinema Illustrazione

Packs of 15 large cards issued by Cinema Illustrazione magazine in Italy and sold for 1 lira at newsstands during the 1930s. Of the nine known sets, two feature Jean Harlow, Serie V and Serie IX. Cards had crimped uneven edges with a few lines of text of the back.

Dixie Lids

Dixie ice cream tubs were distributed with pictures (covered by a thin layer of wax paper) of film stars on the lid between 1933 and 1954. Most lids include the title of one of the star's recent films, a total of ten movies in the case of lids featuring Jean Harlow.

The 1936 and 1937 issues promote "Wife vs Secretary" and "Personal Property" respectively. "Reckless" is one of two films featured in the 1935 issues (the other presumably being "China Seas"). Jean only released "The Girl from Missouri" in 1934, but lids from that year apparently name two movies. Similarly, four films are listed in 1933, but Jean starred in just three: "Hold Your Man", "Dinner at Eight" and "Bombshell".

The lids were produced in two sizes (2¼" and 2¾" diameter) and distributed by at least 50 companies. In addition, two different front images for "Reckless" and "Wife vs Secretary" lids have been seen, which would suggest that the number of variants could run well into four figures. Finally, 12 lids could be exchanged for a large (8"x10") photo, called a "Premium".
